Carry for Kids

Going Overseas? Why not take something to make a difference in the life of a child!
"A bell is not a bell till you ring it, a song is not a song till you sing it, and love in your heart is not put there to stay, love is not love till you give it away"

Our organisation have been fortunate to travel to many overseas locations. It is easy to be a 'western tourist'. Luxury five star hotels, landscaped swimming pools and fine dining restaurants. However, our lasting memories are not of those things.
Our lasting memories include,

  • a nine year old girl selling flowers at midnight on the streets of Ho Chi Minh City.
  • a young boy sleeping soundly on the streets of Bali unaware of the throng of tourists passing by.
  • naked children begging for money in the shadow of Cambodia's famed temple Angkor Wat.
  • a 4 year old orphan suffering from malnutrition and acute scabies with no access to medical treatment.

We can try to erase such memories and do nothing or we can embrace such memories and do something to help change these children's lives.

KIVA - Loans that change lives

KIVA lets YOU lend to a specific entrepreneur in the developing world, empowering them to lift themselves out of poverty.

What We Do

We let you loan to the working poor

Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique entrepreneurs in the developing world. By choosing a loan on Kiva, you can "sponsor a business" and help the world's working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the entrepreneur you've sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.

We partner with organizations all over the world

Kiva partners with existing microfinance institutions. In doing so, we gain access to outstanding entrepreneurs from impoverished communities world-wide. Our partners are experts in choosing qualified entrepreneurs. That said, they are usually short on funds. Through Kiva, our partners upload their entrepreneur profiles directly to the site so you can lend to them.

We show you where your money goes

Kiva provides a data-rich, transparent lending platform for the poor. We are constantly working to make the system more transparent to show how money flows throughout the entire cycle. The below diagram shows briefly how money gets from you to a third-world entrepreneur, and back!

Cheap & Simple

Imagine being able to turn a pond of muddy infested water into fresh drinking water at the rate of 10,000 litres per "unit". Imagine the pleasure of drinking clear water when you never have. Of drinking it without knowing that you will get sick. Imagine how much that would cost! Well it's only $150AUD to provide such a kit to a village.
It is a life saving beginning.

Off the streets in Kathmandu

In Kathmandu as in many other parts of the world, tiny children are forced to sell their bodies to survive on the minimum of food and water, and never believe they will have a safe bed to sleep in.

One of our main projects right now is to provide a safe haven for 30 of these desperate children - providing a safe haven to heal, and a pathway to education that will change their lives and those around them.

We have found the building, we have the support of people on the ground THAT WE KNOW, Joanna from Hog Heaven has been there and it is full steam ahead.

Ring tops from drink bottles

Collect your drink can pull tops & build a limb for an amputee!
This is a brilliant idea and some interesting facts:

  • 1 KG of ring-pull tops helps to make 3 limbs
  • The ring-pull tops are melted down to make the rod that goes inside the limb to support it.
  • The ring-pull tops are also used to make walking aids and frames
  • There are 2 types of limbs made: 1 is a farmers leg - helping when climbing mountains etc and the other is a cosmetic leg.\
  • Dr Therdchai Jivacate designed the legs which are lighter, more comfortable and 10 times less expensive than the imported ones to make since they are made of recycled plastic and ring-pull tops,
  • The Prostheses Foundation has a mobile prosthetic unit which travels to rural remote areas to make artificial legs free of charge for poor and disabled amputees.
  • The Foundation has volunteers, doctors and technicians to make artificial legs all year round.

If you would like to get your school or work behind this easy and effective idea - the addresses to send the ring pull tops to is:
Anna Rulla, 2/1141 North East Road, Ridgehaven, South Australia 5097 OR The Prostheses Foundation, 199 Moo 4 Donkaew Maerim District, Chang Mai 50180 Thailand
